If you have used conventional hair products your whole life, switching to natural hair care can feel a little confusing at first. Shampoo is shampoo, right? Not exactly.
At MION Artisan Soap, we take a different approach to hair care. Instead of creating products mainly to make hair instantly feel extra slippery, coated, or heavily scented, we focus on simple, recognizable ingredients that care for both the hair and the scalp. Our goal is simple: cleanse, nourish, moisturize, and support healthy-looking hair without unnecessary synthetic ingredients.
Natural Hair Care vs. Commercial Hair Care
Many commercial shampoos and conditioners are designed to give you an immediate effect. Strong cleansing agents can remove oil quickly, while silicones and conditioning agents can coat the hair to make it feel very smooth. Synthetic fragrance is often added to create a strong, long-lasting scent.
At MION, our hair products are made with ingredients such as organic plant oils, aloe vera, herbal infusions, apple cider vinegar, calendula, argan oil, hemp oil, castor oil, essential oils and natural salts. And instead of synthetic fragrance, we use essential oils. The biggest difference is that natural hair care is not only about how your hair feels immediately after washing. We want to care for the scalp, roots and hair itself as part of one routine.
How to Use the MION Hair Care Collection
You do NOT need to use every product every time you wash your hair. Think of the collection as different tools you can choose depending on what your hair and scalp need.
1. Shampoo or Shampoo Bar
This is your first step. Choose our Liquid Shampoo or one of our Shampoo Bars.
Wet your hair thoroughly. Apply a small amount of liquid shampoo to the scalp, massage gently and rinse well. If using a shampoo bar, wet the bar and your hair, create a lather in your hands or gently apply it to the hair, massage the scalp, then rinse thoroughly.
Both our liquid shampoo and shampoo bars create a rich, thick lather with plenty of bubbles. Make sure to apply enough product and massage through to achieve a good lather.
If you are new to natural shampoo, give your hair a little time to adjust. It may feel different from a conventional shampoo because you are using a different type of formula.
2. Herbal Hair Rinse
Our Herbal Hair Rinse is a wonderful next step after shampooing. It is made with ingredients including lavender, rosemary, chamomile, and apple cider vinegar. Our Herbal Hair Rinse is a natural alternative to commercial conditioners.
After shampooing, pour approximately one capful through the hair and scalp, massage and rinse with plenty of water. It helps leave the hair feeling fresh, soft and manageable.
3. Calendula Scalp Scrub
Think of this as exfoliation for your scalp.
Our Calendula Scalp Scrub contains ingredients such as calendula, Dead Sea salt, oat flour, castor oil and tea tree essential oil. It is especially useful when the scalp feels dry, flaky or has product buildup.
Use occasionally rather than every day. Mix about 1 tablespoon with small amount of water. Apply to the wet scalp, massage gently, and rinse thoroughly before continuing with your regular wash routine.
4. Hair Growth Elixir
Our Hair Growth Elixir is a concentrated scalp treatment made with ingredients including black castor oil, almond oil, herbal infusions and vitamin E.
Apply a small amount directly to the scalp and gently massage it in. Leave it on as a pre-shampoo treatment for at least couple of hours, then wash your hair thoroughly. It can be incorporated into your routine several times a week depending on your hair type.
A little goes a long way!
5. Hair Serum: Protect & Shine
This is for the hair itself, especially dry, damaged, frizzy or tangled ends.
Place one pump in your hands, rub them together, and lightly work the serum through the mid-lengths and ends. Start with less than you think you need. You can always add another drop.
Avoid applying too much directly to the roots, especially if your hair becomes oily easily.
6. Sea Salt Hair Spray
Our Sea Salt Hair Spray is a styling product for days when you want texture, volume and a relaxed, beachy finish.
Shake well and lightly mist onto damp or dry hair. Scrunch with your hands and allow your hair to air-dry or style as usual. You don’t need to saturate the hair.
7. Beard Oil
And we didn’t forget the men!
Apply a few drops of Beard Oil into your palms, rub your hands together and massage it through the beard and into the skin underneath. It helps condition the beard while leaving it looking softer and more groomed.
A Simple Routine to Start
Natural hair care does not need to be complicated. If you are just starting, begin with Shampoo + Herbal Hair Rinse. Then add treatments depending on what you need: Scalp Scrub for occasional exfoliation, Hair Growth Elixir as a scalp treatment, Hair Serum for dry ends and shine, and Sea Salt Hair Spray for styling.
The most important thing is to listen to your hair. Fine, oily hair may need much less oil than thick, curly or very dry hair.
Give Natural Hair Care a Little Time
One of the biggest mistakes people make when switching to natural products is expecting them to behave exactly like conventional products.
They may not, and that is the point.
A natural shampoo may lather differently. A plant-oil serum may require only two or three drops. Essential oils will smell different from synthetic fragrance. Your hair may even need a little time to find the routine that works best for it.
Start simple, use small amounts, and adjust from there.
At MION Artisan Soap, we believe hair care can be effective without being complicated. Beautiful hair starts with caring for the scalp, choosing thoughtfully made ingredients, and giving your hair what it actually needs. 🌿
